Sears - of all companies
I know I needed this reminder since Sears
isn't always my first choice. Amazing when you think of how long the war has
lasted and they haven't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at
least one thing at Sears this year?
How does Sears treat its employees who are
called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open
and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose
benefits as a result of being called up.
Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in
salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus
programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.
I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate
citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at
Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the
company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.
Pass it on.
Decided to check this before I sent it
forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service
Department:
I received this
e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have
just become one very good source of advertisement for your company . I know I
would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a
like item, even if it's cheaper at that store.
This is their answer to my e-mail:
Dear Customer:
Thank you for
contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive
feedback.
Sears regards
service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can
make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on to all your friends.
Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to
show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our military!!!

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT AREA CODE=20
We actually received a call last week from the 809 area code The womans= aid
"Hey, this is Karen. Sorry I missed you--get back to us quickly. I have=20=
something important to tell you." Then she repeated a phone number beginning=
with 809=20
We didn't respond.=20
Then this week, we received the following e-mail:=20
Do Not DIAL AREA CODE=20
809 , 284 AND 876=20
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY AT&T. DON'T EVER=20
DIAL AREA CODE 809=20
This one is being distributed all over the US . This is pretty scary, es=
pecially given the way they try to get you to call.=20
Be sure you read this and pass it on.=20
They get you to call by telling you that it is information about a famil= y
member who has been ill or to tell you someone has been arrested, died, or= to
let you know you have won a wonderful prize, etc.=20
In each case, you are told to call the 809 number right away Since there= are
so many new area codes these days, people unknowingly return these call= s.=20
=20
If you call from the U.S. , you will apparently be charged $2425
per-minute.=20
=20
Or, you'll get a long recorded message.=20
The point is, they will try to keep you on=20
the phone as long as possible to increase the charges. Unfortunately, when
you get your phone bill, you'll often be charged more than $24, 100.00.=20
=20
WHY IT WORKS:=20
The 809 area code is located in the British Virgin Islands
(The Bahamas)=20
The charges afterwards can become a real nightmare. That's because you d= id
actually make the call. If you complain, both your local phone company an= d
your long distance carrier will not want to get involved and will most likely
tell you that they are simply providing the billing for the foreign comp= any.
You'll end up dealing with a foreign company that argues they have done= nothing
wrong.=20
Please forward this entire message to your friends, family and colleague= s
to help them become aware of this scam.=20
